CHALLENGE
Former Canadian Industry Leader for Deloitte’s Technology, Media and Telecommunications (TMT) practice, John Ruffolo was passionate about increasing the country’s venture capital flow to help entrepreneurs. To improve the existing system, including effecting the necessary tax changes, he needed a platform to communicate a compelling message to government officials, Canadian and American venture capitalists, and the business community at large.
SOLUTION
Broad Reach’s team of communications specialists helped Ruffolo articulate the many financial challenges facing Canadian entrepreneurs. With a fresh approach to media relations that leveraged the conversations taking place around existing Deloitte campaigns (i.e. TMT Predictions, Technology Fast 50 and the Canadian Federal Budget), and that hinged on various touch points throughout the year, Broad Reach shed light on the need for this increased flow of venture capital and successfully positioned Ruffolo as Canada’s leading change maker on this issue.
IMPACT
Over several years, Ruffolo became the de facto voice of venture capital flow for entrepreneurs across Canada. The thought leadership platform that Broad Reach helped Ruffolo build positioned him as the perfect candidate for Chief Executive Officer at OMERS Ventures, and in doing so, gave him a strong voice of national change. Ranked as one of Canadian Business’ Most Powerful Business People in 2014 and 2016, Ruffolo has since had the opportunity to help countless Canadian companies realize their dreams of growing their businesses.
